Genery’s Gap Cemetery
Remembering the families and pioneers of Genery’s Gap.
Welcome
A place to remember, and to be remembered
This site connects families with loved ones buried at Genery’s Gap, cemetery lot owners, descendants, prospective lot owners and members of our community.
Local histories preserve names, relationships and stories that might otherwise be lost with time. We are gathering what can be learned about the families represented here, and we would be grateful to hear from anyone whose family is connected to Genery’s Gap.

Story behind the name
Elizabeth and William Genery
Among the oldest family memorials here is the shared stone of Elizabeth and William Genery. Elizabeth’s grave is the cemetery’s oldest known legible marker, and family history handed down through descendants says the Genery family gave the Gap its name.
Their stone reads “Mother” and “Father,” yet the true relationship may always remain a mystery.
The book
The Families of Genery’s Gap, Alabama
Madge Pettit’s book preserves information about the early families and pioneers of Genery’s Gap, many of whom came to Alabama from the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia. Do you recognize any of the family names it features?
